1. Basic Policy

The Department of Public Policy, Human Genome Center, The Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo (henceforth referred to as the “Department”) recognizes the importance of personal information, and believes that it is a social obligation to protect personal information, and shall abide by laws and university regulations, etc., related to personal information and shall obtain, use, and manage personal information handled in This Department in an appropriate manner.

2. Range of Application

This privacy policy (henceforth referred to as the “Policy”) shows the policy the Department shall abide by when handling personal information–or information that is equivalent to personal information–on the website http://www.pubpoli-imsut.jp/ (henceforth referred to as the “Website”).

3. Purpose of Obtaining and Using Personal Information

The Department shall only obtain personal information that is necessary for carrying out work, and shall not obtain personal information in a way that goes beyond the scope of the purpose of use. Personal information shall be obtained through legal and fair methods.

The personal information obtained on the Website shall be used for the following aims.

4. Management of Personal Information

The Department shall carry out proper management of the personal information in its possession, and to prevent the personal information from being lost, destroyed, falsified, leaked, etc., the Department shall take necessary measures such as information security measures, to protect personal information.

5. Providing to a Third Party

The Department shall not use personal information for aims other than the purpose of use, or provide the personal information to a third party, without obtaining consent beforehand from the person to whom the personal information pertains, excluding cases based on laws.
Moreover, in the case where, based on laws, the personal information is provided to a third party or work involved with handling the personal information is entrusted to a third party, strict investigation shall be carried out on said third party such as in regard to their ability, etc. to manage and ensure the safety of the said personal information, and proper supervision will be carried out when the personal information is being handled by the third party.

6. Disclosing, Revising, Suspending Use, Erasing, Etc., in Regard to Personal Information

In the case where there is a request to disclose, revise, suspend the use of, or erase, the personal information obtained by the Department, there will be a swift response within a reasonable time period and scope, upon confirming that the request is from the person to whom the personal information belongs to.

7. Changes in the Privacy Policy

The Department shall abide by laws related to the protection of personal information, and other standards, and also continuously revise and endeavor to improve the contents of the Policy.
The contents of the Policy can be changed without notifying the user, excluding laws and other matters where the Policy states otherwise.
